Dr. Ziad Fahed (NDU) elected Chair of the IFCU Scientific Council for Research

Dr. Ziad Fahed, Professor at the Department of Religious, Cultural and Philosophical Studies of Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU), Lebanon, and a longstanding collaborator of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU), mainly as COCTI member (the IFCU theological network), has been elected Chair of the Federation’s Scientific Council for Research (CSR).

Nominated by NDU President Fr. Bechara Khoury and elected by the IFCU Board last May 2026, Dr. Fahed will head the Council that gathers all the International Research Groups (IRGs) leaders within the Federation. These groups, which are hosted by the IFCU International Centre for Research and Decision Support (Ciread), are led by renowned researchers from different regions across the world to shed light on key issues for our society, higher education and the Church such as migrations and youth, post-conflict reconstruction processes, AI, the Common good, the Anthropocene, just to name a few ones.

As expressed by Dr. Fahed:

Taking the helm of the IFCU Scientific Council for Research, Dr. Fahed has mapped out a clear strategic vision for his three-year tenure. His immediate priority focuses on elevating the visibility of existing scholarship, ensuring that the achievements, concerns and perspectives of current IRGs are thoroughly represented. At the same time, he aims to strengthen international research collaboration, encourage interdisciplinary projects and expand opportunities for scholars to engage in joint academic initiatives.

 


About Dr. Ziad Fahed

Dr. Ziad Fahed is Professor at the Department of Religious, Cultural and Philosophical Studies at Notre Dame University Louaize (Lebanon). He previously served as Dean of Students and Director of the university’s Mission Office. NDU has provided him with a rich environment for teaching, research and international engagement. Indeed, working alongside diverse students, academic partners and global networks helped developing the vital leadership, intercultural and strategic skills necessary to serve an international academic community.

Dr. Fahed’s research focuses on religions and politics, interreligious dialogue and pluralism, the role of the Church during the Lebanese war, theology of mission, and the contribution of the Church in building the Lebanese political system. With over two decades of academic and research experience, Dr. Fahed has contributed significantly to the understanding of religious dynamics in the Middle East, particularly in the context of Lebanon’s complex political and social landscape. His work bridges theological scholarship with practical applications in peacebuilding, interfaith relations, and the role of religious institutions in society.
