NHNAI Project on AI and Neurosciences – Newsletter 4 is out!
We are pleased to share the fourth newsletter of the NHNAI project (New Humanism in the time of Neurosciences and Artificial Intelligence), coordinated by the “Confluence: Sciences and Humanities Research” Center at Lyon Catholic University, France, under the aegis of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU).
This issue presents the results of the second wave of societal debates (2024–2025) across 9 countries by highlighting new “nexuses of complexity” at the intersection of AI, neuroscience and human life. Among some of the main tensions identified, one can find:
- Health – risks of AI-driven self-diagnosis, biases in datasets, challenges to solidarity in healthcare, and the delicate balance between robot companions and genuine human interaction.
- Democracy – resisting the dominance of tech giants, defending cultural diversity, protecting us against fake news and safeguarding human uniqueness in the age of AI.
- Education – balancing technological adaptation with critical thinking, creativity, ethics and autonomy.
- Ecology – AI as both an ally and a threat in the ecological transition, raising the question: is “AI for green” possible?
- Global concerns – the risk of impoverishment of human intelligence and democratic life due to overdependence on AI.
This edition also includes the full proceedings of the NHNAI International Conference held in Rome on September 2024, which are freely available online.
